The problem

Matcha drinkers end up with a shelf of opened tins, a few recipes in their head and no record of which bowl was actually good. Freshness matters, tins are expensive, and the details that make a bowl work (grams, water, temperature) are easy to forget.

What we built

Tama keeps the whole ritual in one place.

  • Know what you own. Add a tin with its weight and price. Every bowl comes off the tin, so you always know roughly how much is left, how long it’s been open and what each bowl costs. Freshness labels point you to the tin to drink first. Take a photo and Tama cuts the tin out of the picture for your shelf.
  • Remember how you made it. Start from your last bowl, a saved recipe, or usucha, koicha or a latte. A calm timer walks you through cooling the water, sifting, whisking and finishing.
  • Learn what you like. Rate a bowl, pick tasting words and add a note. The Journal shows your month at a glance, what you drank this week and what it cost.
  • Write matcha by hand. Learn the two characters of 抹茶 stroke by stroke: watch, trace, then write on your own.

A Home Screen widget shows what’s left in the open tin. Everything syncs through the user’s own iCloud account, with no sign-up.
