Martinus

Design system, accessibility and conversion work for Slovakia's largest bookseller, from the homepage and search to an in-store kiosk.

Context

Martinus is the largest book retailer in Slovakia, with a busy e-shop and a network of bookstores. The digital product team needed one consistent front-end foundation, better accessibility and higher conversion on the pages that matter most.

What we did

  • Company-wide design system. Owned the front-end design system that the e-shop and internal tools are built on: tokens, components, documentation and the process for changing them.
  • Accessibility audit, then fixes. Ran an end-to-end accessibility audit, implemented the fixes and put practices in place so new work stays compliant. This raised WCAG conformance and general usability.
  • Key entry points. Worked with the UX and digital product team to overhaul the homepage, product listing and search, and product detail pages, with the goal of increasing conversion.
  • In-store kiosk. Ran the UX research, designed the interface and did the full-stack build of a kiosk system used in Martinus bookstores.

Why it matters

A design system only pays off if it is easier to use than to work around. Pairing it with an accessibility practice meant every component fix improved every page at once. We wrote up the approach in accessibility audits that end in fixes.
